Choosing a denture is a personal experience. You want to make the right decision, so your denture fits properly, feels good, functions properly, and enhances your appearance. Given the personal aspect of a denture, it’s a good idea to ask yourself and the dentist who you are considering making your denture the following questions.
What Are the Names of The Dental Professionals Who Will Be Making the Denture?
A denture is not (or at least it shouldn’t be) a
one-size-fits-all product that you buy off-the-shelf produced at a factory
somewhere in the world by people who you will probably never know. Rather, a
denture is a very customized and personal product, unique to the person who
needs the denture.
The crafting of a denture is also a team effort. In
addition to the dentist, there are lab technicians who do the actual hands-on fabrication
of the denture. It’s important to have face-to-face meetings and develop a
relationship with not only the dentist, but also these lab technicians.
It’s important to know the names of all the dental
professionals who will be entrusted with making your denture - the doctor and
the lab technicians.
What Level of Experience Do the Dental Professionals
Have Making Denture Patients Happy?
As the old saying goes,
“Nothing Substitutes for Experience”. When it comes to creating a denture that looks
great and fits and functions properly, it’s all about the level of experience
the dental professionals have.
·
How many years
has the dentist been practicing?
·How many years have the lab technicians been fabricating dentures?
·How many years of overall experience does the dentist office have in serving the needs denture patients both crafting new dentures and maintaining the dentures over time when necessary adjustments or repairs are needed?
Will the Denture Be Made in a Local Dental Lab?
Most people think that all dentures are made at or near the
dentist’s office. However, many dental
labs where dentures get made are in a different city, a different state, or
even a different country.
To create a custom denture that fits and functions
properly, it takes close communication between the patient, the dentist and the
lab technicians. When they are all located in the same office, it enhances
communications. Conversely, when the team works in different locations, it can
lead to poor communications.
Eventually, a denture will need adjusted, repaired,
and/or relined. When this time comes, the proximity of the dental lab to you
really becomes important. Will your denture need to be sent away for adjustments
and repairs or will this routine maintenance be able to be performed the same
day or even while you wait?
At our dentist office, I (Dr. Mark Grucella) have over 20
years of experience crafting custom dentures that fit and function properly. Our
large dental lab is located at our Fairlawn, Ohio dentist office and is staffed
by ( Peg, Lisa, Tim, and Med
) who are all highly experienced and talented
technicians. We all work closely together to deliver our denture patients with
a personal experience unlike any other.
When people come to us for dentures, we all want to get
to know you personally. You’ll be able to meet me or any member of our team
including our lab technicians. In fact, we offer our denture patients the
opportunity to tour our on-site denture lab, so they can see the very place
where their denture will be made.
